© Svilen MilevThere are only a few short weeks left to take advantage of the first time home buyer tax credit. If you are considering buying a home this year, contact a Realtor today. Your Realtor will help you find the right solution for you and your family and the US taxpayer will help you to the tune of either $6500 or $8000 depending on your home buying status.

If you have never bought a home before, or you haven’t owned a home in the last 3 years, you can receive an $8000 tax credit. If you are a current home owner and want to buy a new home, your tax credit will be $6500. These credits apply if your income is less than $125,000 for singles or $225,000 for a married couple.

Why the urgency? The current tax incentive only applies if you have a written, binding contract by April 30, 2010. You have until June 20, 2010 to close, but the contract has to be in effect by April 30, 2010!

There have been mixed reviews about the tax incentive program for homebuyers, but the numbers have been rolling in. November, 2009 figures from the National Association of Realtors estimate that the program has added $22 billion to the general economy with an estimated 2 million home buying participants.
