Last week my wife and I made a big decision that is going to change the way we camp, hopefully for the better. Most of my life I have been an ardent supporter of tent camping and the mobile lifestyle such activities can present. Lately though my body has begun to rebel against such ideas. Sleepless nights and sore bones in the morning have informed me that while the overall experience of tenting in the outdoors is wonderful, enjoying the next day fully rested has been a challenge. So, we began looking into other options, and found one.
Last week we purchased a used 1995 Rockwood Freedom Pop-Up camper. I don’t currently have any pictures of it to share, but rest assured, it looks pretty much like the run-of-the-mill pop-ups out there. We got the camper home and began taking inventory of things that needed cleaned or fixed and I immediately discovered an issue with the roof. I spent almost a week working on it (details are at http://manplanit.blogconduit.com), but it is now ready for use.
I’m looking forward to sleeping in considerably more comfort at night. During the days here in Texas, heat can also be an issue. While I prefer to acclimate to the local weather, if it does become necessary to cool down, the camper does have a working air conditioning unit, which will help with sleeping as well.
I grew up with pop-ups in my family and they were always, well mostly, great fun and left lasting memories of family outings. I’d love to hear your stories about experiences camping with pop-up trailers.
